What's Happening in Wardsboro . . .


Mondays

Survival Skills
Grades: K - 2
Program Leader: Colton Anderson
Let's head outside, hike into the woods, and learn some basic survival skills!  In this program students will learn outdoor survival techniques such as safety, shelter building, and basic tool craft.  Make sure to dress appropriately, warm clothes and bright colors are survival fundamentals!

Arts N' Scraps
Grades: 1 - 6
Program Leader: Kristen Derry
Build a book of memories and learn the art of storytelling with photographs in this scrap-booking class!  Each week we will clip, cut, and paste, telling stories using photographs and creative writing.

Construction Engineering
Grades: 3 - 6
Program Leader: Kiley Boyd
Using Legos we will explore the foundations of construction.  Each week we will learn a new construction technique while focusing on the appropriate construction vocabulary of the day.  After, we will build our own structures based on what we have learned.


Tuesdays

Wacky Science
Grades: K - 2
Program Leader: Kristen Derry
In this program we will learn science basics through fun and wacky experiments!  Learn about chemistry by making plastic milk, explore forces and energy by building a windmill, even create a map on your tongue to explore your senses!  Non-stop crazy experiments will keep you learning and laughing all afternoon!

Girls on the Run
Grades: 3 - 6

Girls on the Run is a unique opportunity for girls to learn confidence building and healthy life skills through the use of creative running games.


Wednesdays

Read, Learn & Create - Forest Animals
Grades: K - 3
Program Leader: Gwenn Melis
In this program we will read great books about forest animals and then we will create a project to go along with what we have read.  We will also learn about the kinds of tracks that our forest animals and birds make in the snow.  If the weather cooperates we will even be able to search for animal tracks such as deer, fox, turkey, mouse, and squirrels.  Come join the fun!

Brain Games
Grades: 3 - 6
Program Leader: Kristen Derry
In this program we will play strategy games that bend the mind and make you think.  Using a variety of board games and card games we will have an endless supply of fun.  We will even learn the basic components of a scavenger hunt and create our own!

Math Olympiads
Grades: 4 - 6
Program Leader: Jeremy Schrauf
Students will explore an assortment of math concepts through the use of math puzzles and strategies in preparation for the Math Olympiads competition.  Once the competition is over this program is all about games!


Thursdays

Jump Start
Grades: K - 2
Program Leaders: Kiley Boyd & Kristen Derry
Jump Start is a unique program that combines physical activity with literary and math skills.  Students bounce around on hippity hops, jump rope, and hopscotch, all while practicing basic math and literacy skills.  Using a variety of tools such as flash cards, poems, and dice, students will be learning while their bodies are physically active.

Totally Sensational Science Experiments
Grades: 3 - 6
Program Leader: Gwenn Melis
In this program we will create experiments using everyday household objects.  There are over 25 experiments for  us to choose from and we will vote on what experiment to try next!  Who knows, it could be slimy, foamy, gooey, edible, or gross.  Come try something strange and new!
