What's Happening in Townshend . . . 

Mondays

Homework Club
Grades: 1 - 6
Program Leader: Sandy Sperry
Students must have homework in order to stay for Homework Club.  An adult and high school students will be available to assist students in their homework.

Outdoor Adventures
Grades: 2 - 6
Program Leader: Doug Brooks
Let's continue to explore the woods in the winter.  We will be accessing the woods via the trail behind the school and walking behind Valley Cares and up into the woods.  We will look for traces of animals and learn more about being outside in the winter.  Don't forget to dress warm for the outside weather.

Yoga
Grades: 3 - 6
Program Leaders: Crystal Mansfield & Barbara Bedortha
Students participating in Yoga will walk to the Grace Cottage Wellness Center with Ms. B.  There they will take a class that is taught by certified Yoga instructor Crystal Mansfield who teaches a gentle form of Yoga that focuses on breath work and poses.  The Yoga class is an introduction to a basic form of Yoga, including stretches, poses, light meditations and breathing exercises.  Participants should wear comfortable, stretchy clothing.

Latch Hook Fun
Grades: K - 6
Program Leader: Maureen Holden
Come learn the timeless art of latch hook rug making.  No experience needed.  All materials will be provided.  Advanced rug hookers and newbies are welcome.

Relay Races and Games
Grades: K - 2
Program Leader: Carla West
Kids will participate in relay races and games in an indoor field days/Olympics style.  These games will challenge their balance, strength, flexibility, coordination, agility and fitness.  This is a great way for students to get some exercise in a fun and energetic way.


Tuesdays

Homework Club

Scrapadapadoo
Grades: 3 - 6
Program Leader: Kris Jerz & Bethany Barton
Learn the art of telling a story through your photographs!  Everyone will receive a scrapbook and the materials to enhance your photos.  You will also have fun writing about your photos in a way that tells a story.

Cooking
Grades: 4 - 6
Program Leader: Jessica Mowrey
Follow recipes to make special treats each week and create your own recipes to share with your family.  Participants will learn about safety in the kitchen, working with fractions by halving recipes and doubling recipes.  

The Amazing Arctic
Grades: K - 3
Program Leaders: Megan Richardson & Judy Gould
We are continuing our exploration of the Arctic region.  There is so much more to learn about this area.  We will continue our studies to find out about how animals and/or people survive the cold climate.  We will investigate adaptations, protections, and food habits of inhabitants of the North Pole.

Puppetry 
Grades: 3 - 6
Program Leader: Doug Brooks
Puppetry is believed to have originated 3000 years ago.  A puppeteer is a person who manipulates an inanimate object by the use of strings, rods, wires, etc.  to create the illusion of life.  Participants will design and create their own string puppets, as well as learning how to use their string puppets.  Most materials used to make these puppets will be everyday materials so students can create their own at home, if they wish.


Wednesdays

Games & Puzzles
Grades: K - 6
Program Leader: Maureen Holden
What do you want to try today?  Come choose from an endless variety of activities, including Bingo, strategy games, puzzle solving, dice games and board games that are sure to keep your imagination dancing.  Team work will be encouraged in puzzle solving and group games.

Computer Games
Grades: 3 - 6
Program Leader: Kris Jerz
Have fun exploring websites (under supervision), playing games and designing online while you increase your skills and knowledge about computer use and technology.


Thurdays

Homework Club

Indoor Soccer
Grades: 3 - 6
Program Leader: Chris Barton
Dribble, pass, shoot and score!  Let's have fun learning the ins and outs of soccer.  We will focus on footwork, ball handling skills and most important, TEAMWORK!  

Math Tutoring 
Grades: 1 - 3
Program Leader: Stephanie Brown
This math tutoring intervention program needs both parent and teacher recommendations.  Classroom teachers will work with the tutor to ensure the needs and weak areas of the student are known and concentrated on.

Card Games
Grades: 3 - 6
Program Leader: Julie Dolan
Each week a new card game will be introduced, including the card game Brisca from Spain.  You will also get to play some of your favorites.  Use logic and strategic thinking and play against your friends.
