What's Happening in Townshend . . .

Monday

Homework Club
Grades: 1 - 6
Program Leader: Sandy Sperry
Students must have homework in order to stay for Homework Club.  An adult and high school students will be available to assist students in their homework.

Outdoor Adventures
Grades: 3 - 6
Program Leaders: Doug Brooks & Carla West
Let's explore the woods in the winter.  If there is snow on the ground and you have snowshoes bring them.  Snowshoes will be provided to anyone who does not have a pair.  We will be accessing the woods via the trail behind the school and walking behind Valley Cares and up into the woods behind the Fillion home.  You will continue to work on the shelters you have built.  You will look at the changes in the woods in winter.  We will look for traces of animals.  Don't forget to dress warm for the outside weather and to wear bright colors!

Yoga
Grades: 2 - 6
Program Leaders: Crystal Mansfield & Barbara Bedortha
Student's participating in Yoga will walk to the Grace Cottage Wellness Center with Ms. B.  The Yoga class will be from 
3:15-4:15 and then the students will walk back to TES with Ms. B.  Certified Yoga instructor Crystal Mansfield teachers a gentle form of Yoga that focuses on breath work and poses.  The Yoga class is an introduction to a basic form of Yoga, including stretches, poses, light meditation and breathing exercises.  Participants should wear comfortable, stretchy clothing.

Pirate Adventures
Grades: K - 2
Program Leader: Maureen Holden
Ahoy, Matey!  Each week students will learn about a famous pirate and then create a pirate craft.  Pirate hats and treasure maps are just the start of this swashbuckling adventure!


Tuesday

Scrapadapadoo
Grades: 1 - 6
Program Leaders: Kris Jerz & Bethany Barton
Learn the art of telling a story through your photographs!  Everyone will receive a scrapbook and the materials to enhance your photos.  You will also have fun writing about your photos in a way that tells a story.  You will need to provide your own photos.  Welcome old and new participants.

The Amazing Artic
Grades: K - 3
Program Leaders: Megan Richardson & Judy Gould
Join the polar express to discover what life is like in the Artic region.  Find out about how animals and/or people survive the cold climate.  We will investigate adaptations, protections, and food habitats of inhabitants of the North Pole.

Drawing Techniques and Self-Portrait
Grades: 4 - 6
Program Leader: Erelyn Griffin, L&G High School Student
In this program students will experiment with different drawing techniques that will assist them in creating realistic art, focusing on facial features.  By the end of the program each student will have created their very own self portrait.

Intro to the German Language
Grades: 3 - 6
Program Leader: Alex Coultier
In you are an English speaker unfamiliar with German, you may be surprised to learn that English and German are closely related languages and share many words that are very similar.  If you would like to find out more of the German culture and learning the language this class is for you!  Willkommen!

Minecraft Creations
Grades: 4 - 6
Program Leader: Kris Jerz
It's here!  Our after-school Minecraft program will run for 6 weeks starting in January.  Take your minecrafting to the next level or begin minecrafting with our Minecraft After-School program!  Plan and design massive constructions, build elaborate Redstone contraptions, work as a team and build a world all your own.

Latch Hook Fun
Grades: K - 6
Program Leader: Maureen Holden
Come and learn the timeless art of latch hook rug making.  No experience needed.  All materials will be provided.  Advanced rug hookers and newbies are welcome.

Math Tutoring for Grades 1 - 3
Grades: 1 - 3
Program Leader: Stephanie Brown
This math tutoring intervention program needs both parent and teacher recommendations.  Classroom teachers will work with the tutor to ensure the needs and weak areas of the student are known and concentrated on.

Learn the Art of Braiding
Grades: 4 - 6
Program Leader: Doug Brooks
Rug braiding is a craft nearly anyone can learn.  A simple braid is combined with an uncomplicated process to create a beautiful rug.  Each is one of a kind, often made with wool or recycled material.  Some sewing is also needed.  You will learn this process, while creating a coaster, hot pad, chair pad or rug.  Materials will be provided but if you have some cotton or wool material you would like to use please bring it.  Small pieces of material won't work very well.

Cooking
Grades: K - 3
Program Leader: Jessica Mowrey
Follow recipes to make special treats each week and create your own recipes to share with your family.  Participants will learn about safety in the kitchen, working with fractions by halving recipes and doubling recipes.  New and past participants welcome.
