What's Happening in NewBrook . . . 

Monday
Winter Wonders
Grades: K - 2
Program Leader: Greenough Nowakoski
Let's go outside to enjoy winter activities like building a fort and playing games in the snow, all the while exploring the science behind all this fun.  Snow and snowflakes, ice, freezing and melting are all topics for really cool outdoor experiments!  Be sure to bring warm clothes and boots.

GeoBee Club
Grades: 4 - 6
Program Leader: Joyce Van Pamelen
Hone your geography skills as you prepare for the state GeoBee competition.  Use computers, maps, reading, puzzles and board games to learn about the USA and countries around the world.

Kidizens Council
Grades: 3 - 6
Program Leader: Scotty Tabachnick
Mr. Tabachnick invites students who are interested in making their voices heard to join a leadership team for NewBrook Elementary School.  Driven by student ideas and concerns, you'll work together on projects that improve our school.  Preference will be given to students who have not taken this class before.

Kids on the Run
Grades: 3 - 6
Program Leader: Jacki Capponcelli
After a long day of school, grab your friends and come play some energy-pumping games such as Zombie Tag, Prison Ball, Capture the Flag and more!  In this class, students will enjoy a safe, fun and positive experience while learning team building and leadership skills.

Tuesday

Build It
Grades:K - 4
Program Leader: Jen Aither
Using LEGOs, blocks and Lincoln Logs, kids will build structures of their own design, then tell a story and draw a picture of their creations.  Pictures and stories will be put together into a book for each child.

Music Appreciation II
Grades: 3 - 6
Program Leader: Gary Keiser
What makes pop music pop and rock music rock?  In this class, we'll listen to many different genres of music, and explore what distinguishes one from the other.  We'll even write our own songs.  Absolutely no dancing allowed!

Cooking Around the World
Grades: 3 - 6
Program Leader: Jenn Wagner
Come travel the world . . . of food!  Each week we'll stamp our passports and explore the cuisine of a different country, learning about its culture, language and geography.  Fun and tasty recipes may include French crepes, Mexican burritos, Stir Fried Thai Noodles and Vietnamese spring rolls.

Wednesday

Lions and Cobras: Yoga for Kids
Grades: K - 2
Program Leader: Sammi Rollet
Using simple breathing and stretching techniques as well as fun Yoga poses and games, Sammi will introduce young students to the physical benefits of exercise, as well as ways to relax and center themselves when they feel tired or stressed.

KidzMath Story Time
Grades: 2 - 4
Program Leader: Jen Aither
Students have loved doing KidzMath with Ms. Jen during Homework Club last session.  Much more than a math class, this program from the Developmental Studies Center lets kids experience mathematics through stories, games, and collaboration.  Come join the fun!

Printmaking
Grades: 3 - 6
Program Leader: Jenn Wagner
Do you like pushing the boundaries, thinking outside the box?  Come create a variety of images and patterns from stamps, block print and transfer print techniques.  You'll explore the many possibilities for your own unique prints using mixed media, different textures and your own originality.


Thursday

Art Expressions
Grades: K - 3
Program Leader: Jenn Wagner
Bring your unique ideas and personality to this fun class to create art that's all about your imagination.  Using paper, paint, found outdoor materials, magazines . . . you name it . . . we'll explore different ways to create beautiful arts and crafts.

Brainstormers
Grades: 4 - 6
Program Leader: Joyce Van Pamelen
John Lennon (of the Beatles) once said "there are no problems, only solutions".  In this class you'll be challenged to solve problems using a set of materials and working in teams.  Imagine creating a way to move 50 pounds without effort, or to drop an egg from a height without breaking it.  Accept the Challenge!

Cheerleading
Grades: 4 - 6
Program Leader: Trish Coyne
Get in great shape as you learn fun cheers and routines.  Practice your favorite cheer dances and jumps and work together on cheers you can perform as a team.
