What's Happening in Dover . . . 

Mondays

News Cast
Program Leader: Greg Montgomery
Grades: K - 6
In this class students will create a weekly news broadcast to share with school students.  The children will report on matters of importance that impact our school community.  In this class students will become investigative news reporters, broadcasters, film crews, editors, publishers, and more.  This class may require students to spend additional time interviewing teachers, staff, and families to gain information to be able to report to the school.  This class supports STEM core learning and education.

Munch Munch Munch
Program Leader: Angela Letizia
Grades: K - 6
In this class students will learn to create healthy snacks.  They will learn to make snacks that can be brought to school or eaten on the go.  Children in this program get a hands on and very tasty experience of cooking and preparing foods.  They discover how fun and exciting food preparation can be while gaining an understanding of making healthy choices.  Just because it is good for you it doesn't have to taste bad.  This class supports health education, kitchen safety, and creativity.

Study Hall
Program Leader: Mrs. Griswold
Grades: 4 - 6
This time will provide students with an opportunity to complete homework.  They will receive minimal guidance by the supervising staff.  If children complete homework prior to the end of class they will choose a quiet activity such as board games, reading a book, or drawing.


Tuesdays

American Art
Program Leader: Tamara Allen
Grades: K - 6
In this class students will practice the old tradition of sand painting.  Sand painting has long been a tradition of the Native American tribes of the southwest.  The Navajo tribes, in particular, are known for this beautiful art.  Children will be able to utilize paper and glue to create works by sprinkling colored sand to make beautiful patterns and designs.  Children will explore connections between how the Navajo tribes used art to express themselves and how we use art to express ourselves.  This class supports arts education and IB learning through the transdisciplinary theme of How We Express Ourselves.

Outdoor Fun
Program Leader: Jocelynn Smith
Grades: K - 6
In this class students will participate in several types of outdoor activities.  They will play ball games, participate in cooperative games, ride bikes, use the play ground equipment, go hiking, and more.  This class supports physical education, cooperation skills, and is just plain fun.  Children will choose from a variety of activities to participate in and will be given plenty of opportunities to just play!

This time will provide students with an opportunity to complete homework.  They will receive minimal guidance by the supervising staff.  If children complete homework prior to the end of class they will choose a quiet activity such as board games, reading a book, or drawing.


Wednesdays

Green Screen
Program Leaders: Greg Montgomery & Ms. Perkins
Grades: K - 6
Students will gain an understanding of how to create green screen productions.  The aim of this class is to enable students to increase their independence using green screen technology to create presentations.  The knowledge gained in this class translates to students being able to create presentations in the classroom.  This class supports technology education and is based on self direction.

Literature Comes Alive
Program Leader: Tamara Allen
Grades: K - 6
In this class students will read or listen to stories then create characters, scenes, and their own versions of the stories.  Children will use puppetry, and acting to present the story to their classmates.  This class will involve not only literature but arts while children creatively represent the story to share with others.  This class supports the arts and literacy development.

Thursdays

Super Heroes
Program Leader: Kelly Chase
Grades: K - 6
This class is based on the theme of super heroes.  Everyone loves a super hero!  Students will invent a new super hero from their imagination.  They will design the characteristics of the super hero based on and combining aspects of other super heroes.  Children will create comic strips, illustrations, and super hero clothing.  While participating in the class children will explore the concept of what a super hero is and how that character supports the human understanding of power, ego, and hope.  This class supports education in the arts as well as literacy development.

The World Around Me
Program Leader: Bodil Morse
Grades: K - 6
In this class students will discover the nature all around them.  They will participate in activities that center on nature through making tree rubbings, going bird watching, finding bugs, collecting and classifying flowers and plants, using technology to investigate Vermont wildlife.  This class supports science education as well as supporting the IB transdisciplinary theme of Sharing the Planet.
